Simple Living | Welcome (Yourself) Home

I was going to a wedding at an historic farmstead in a valley tucked into the Rocky Mountains of northern Idaho. The ceremony would take place under the trees, the reception in the century old barn. It was my sister’s wedding and I, along with several sets of helpful hands, would be creating all the floral designs for the event. I packed my notes and lists, my tools and supplies. I packed a cooler with food. I packed two dresses because, in the end, I couldn’t decide.

This post, though, isn’t about the wedding, or the flowers, or the trip away (more on that soon), it’s about coming home. It’s about that moment when you walk in the door, road weary and spent, and how your house can be expectant, welcoming. It’s about leaving it the way you’d like to find it upon your return. Freshly cleaned and tended, beds made in line-dried linens, dinner waiting in the fridge, and fresh flowers everywhere.

You might say you’re your own expected guest, where everything you need upon arrival has been thought of and prepared. Loves, especially in the weary, we all want to be cared for, held. Now, with a hum of forethought, your home is ready to do just that. All you have to do upon opening the door is fall into its embrace.

Welcome (yourself) home.
