Good Things Are Born

The thing about January is, it gives you time to think. Time to open the notebook and pencil down the ideas that come. Scribble them, really, because, as you know, things tend to look and feel messy - sometimes tremendously so - before they can be lined up and tidy. The mess is simply the early part of the beauty and good that’s coming (so don’t ever chide yourself for your messes). So the messy thoughts in messy handwriting fall messily on the page. Words by lines, words slanted in the margins, words struck through, words scrawled in. A flow of thoughts, a flow of words, one idea connecting to another, and another, blooming as they go.

This is how good things are born.

It’s giving space for learning your own thoughts, your own heart. For learning your own life. Or, maybe more precisely, what your heart wants for your life. Understanding, glimpse by glimpse how you might live, how you might expand, how you might connect with your world and the people in it. Receiving so that you might give.

Here are a few of the things that came out of my January scribbling…

Coming into the new year, there were several things I knew. One, I knew I wanted to write more. You know about my love of written words, the thrill of how they can elegantly fit together, interweaving a narrative that stirs emotion, hope, and light. Yes, writing here once a week has been good, but wouldn’t more be even better?

Another thought that bloomed was the idea of expanding my Design Services to include a 30 minute session, perfect for a boost in inspiration and advice specific to your space. A one-time booking will set you on the right track, or string several of them together over weeks or months and see the incredible change that can happen. More details coming about this next week.

Do you remember Simple Domestic? It was a source list I created and offered a few years ago of curated goods for the home. Several of you have written to me saying how much you appreciated having it available, so I’m thrilled to say, it’s coming back! In it you’ll find home goods and more that align with my aesthetic and philosophy of having fewer, better things. Coming in March!

If you’ve been wondering about Living Well, I understand. (I have, too!) It’s such an exciting idea. The truth is, I’ve had to set it aside for development, as my eldest son and I both realized (he’s a film major and was intending to do all the video editing for me) that his schedule is far too full to accommodate this project. What I can say right now is, it’s still very much in my heart and mind to do this year, it’s just that the timeline of it, right now, is unclear. But know that I’ll be sure to let you know the minute it all comes together.

Many of you already enjoy it every month, but for those who aren’t aware, I write a monthly letter that you might like to receive. In it is content you won’t find anywhere else - photos, writing, recipes, book recommendations, and a list of favorite things. Sign up to receive it here

Yes, in January, good things were born. Do tell me your thoughts about them in the comments below!
